Two Clients, Two Sales Worth Nearly $1 Billion in 48 Hours -
One PR Agency to the Rescue
Challenge:
• Two longtime ECA clients, TotalBank and Vista Healthplans, both announce their plans to be sold to larger public companies within a two-day span.
• Vista, an ECA client for more than six years, was sold for $685 million to Coventry Health Care, Inc., [NYSE: CVH] a midsize health insurer from Maryland.
• A day later, TotalBank, an ECA client for more than four years, was sold for $300 million to Banco Popular Español, the third-largest bank in Spain.
Approach:
• Although a boutique-sized PR firm, ECA is capable of handling not just one but multiple announcements for large-scale mergers and acquisitions at the same time. ECA utilized its capabilities to reach local, national and international media in times of breaking news on behalf of both these clients.
• ECA produced press releases in both English and Spanish, worked to effectively disseminate communications and pitched all local media as well as national trade publications.
Results:
• For TotalBank, ECA secured coverage on the front page of the business sections in both The Miami Herald and the South Florida Sun-Sentinel. The news also appeared in El Nuevo Herald and Hispanic Business as well as South Florida Business Journal and Daily Business Review. National coverage was achieved in American Banker and on various news Web sites including, Reuters, EFE, Yahoo! Finance and AOL Money & Finance.
• For Vista, ECA secured coverage on the front page of The Miami Herald's business section and in the South Florida Sun-Sentinel as well as targeted industry publications.
