Miami Sports & Exhibition Authority - Impressions in Black History
Challenge:
• Generate news stories in advance to promote a production by the Miami Sports & Exhibition Authority of From the Porch, a historical play about the African diaspora, written by a local writer and featuring actor Danny Glover as the narrator.
• Secure advance placements in target publications announcing the play to help boost ticket sales and public awareness.
Approach:
• Created an action plan, and drafted press releases and media alerts in advance of the event to have in place for distribution. Releases and alerts distributed on specific dates with detailed protocols on pitching and follow-up to secure print and broadcast media for the event.
• Coordinated and secured interviews with the playwright and Danny Glover in both print and broadcast media prior to the event.
Results:
• Obtained extensive advance coverage for the play, the writer and Danny Glover including feature stories with photos and detailed calendar items in The Miami Herald's Arts & Entertainment section, Neighbors and Weekend, Miami Today, Miami Times and several community newspapers including Westside Gazette, South Miami Times, Coral Gables News and more.
• TV coverage of the event during rehearsal and the weekend of the play on several local stations including NBC-6, UPN Channel 33, Island TV and radio WMBM 1490 AM.
• Secured interest from The Miami Herald's photo department, generating a color photo on the front page of the Metro section with a detailed caption on the photo and the event.
